If you do not defrag, not only does your PC slow down to the point it’s unusable, it can also wreck your whole Windows Vista install!
This window opens…
Right-click your hard drive and click “Properties”. This window now opens…
Click the “Tools” tab and your window will look like this…
Click “Defragment Now” and this window opens…
Again, click “Defragment Now”.
The Vista defragmenter will drive you up the wall. It’s slow as heck, does not show the drive map and there is no progress bar. The first time i ran it, it took 8 hours on a quarter full, mildly fragmented 500GB drive, and did not even completely defrag it.
Save yourself the aggravation and get Diskeeper 2008 pro. It’s fast, thorough and has an excellent GUI. Did I mention that it’s easy to use? Just install it and you’re done- Diskeeper defrags automatically when necessary, and using only unutilized system resources.
