Defrag Your Hard Drive in Windows XP

If you do not defrag, not only does your PC slow down to the point it’s unusable, it can also wreck your whole Windows XP install!

Click “My Computer”, right click this icon (hard drive icon) and click “Properties”:

Right about now you are saying “what is all this stuff?!” Don’t worry, this couldn’t be any simpler! All you have to do is click the “Defragment” tab and sit back and wait! If you transfer a lot of big files or surf the net a lot you want to defrag your hard drive at least once a week. If you do not use your computer much you can get away with doing it once a month.

    Yes, defrag your drive regularly, but more than once a month is usually a waste of time. A defrag once a week wiil do virtually nothing for performance in most cases.
