Disable System Beeps in Ubuntu

Late at night, if you listen very closely you can hear Ubuntu users say… “Ugh… those annoying beeps I hear while doing certain things in Ubuntu drive me insane! How come even when I turn down my speakers I still hear these beeps?!”. Well guess what… You can disable those beeps for good!

First we need to open Ubuntu’s terminal. Click “Applications”, “Accessories” and click “Terminal”. You should now see a window like this…

Copy & paste this text into the terminal:

sudo rmmod pcspkr

Your window should now look something like this…

Press enter on your keyboard and no more annoying system beeps!

If by chance you like to drive yourself mad hearing system beeps, open the terminal again and copy & paste this text into the terminal and press enter on your keyboard:

sudo modprobe pcspk
